What to say
A simple script for the call.
Keep it short and factual. Describe what you see. You do not have to know the cause or the cost.
Hi, I need to report a new claim for damage from Hurricane Isaias.
- Give your name, the property address and your policy number if you have it.
- Say when you first saw the damage and what you see: roof, water inside, trees, fence, contents.
What is my claim number, and who is my adjuster?
Write both down.Am I okay to make temporary repairs to stop more damage, like a tarp?
Keep the receipts.Does my policy cover extra living costs if I can't stay at home?
- If water came in from outside rising water, ask about flood coverage. Flood is usually a separate policy.
- Before you hang up, write down the date, the time and the name of the person you spoke with.
